Dear residents, With the warmer weather comes an increase in reports of anti-social behaviour around the open water basins on Salford Quays. You may be tempted to cool off in open water areas like these however, entering water can be dangerous and is not recommended outside of organised events: - The water can be much colder than it looks, even on hot days, leading to cold water shock.
- There may be hidden hazards below the surface such as debris or sudden drops. The basins are not as deep as people think ! Jumping off the bridge can cause you serious harm
- Deep water, and limited exit points can make it difficult to get out once youβre in.
- Swimming in unauthorised areas may also lead to emergency service call-outs, putting yourself and others at risk.
At least 17 open water fatalities were recorded for the hot spell in May. Float To Live β What To Do If You Fall In Water - Click the link for more info: - Tilt your head back submerging your ears
- Relax and control your breathing
- Move your hands and legs to stay afloat
- Your legs may sink - that's OK everyone floats differently
